Komatsu is a Japanese-based company which eventually started distribution in Australia in 1965. It started distributing wheel loaders and excavators until it slowly added other products in Komatsu range such as Haulpak, Dresser, Ingersoll-Rand, Blasthole drills. They have also been distributing articulated trucks and hydraulic shovels. In 2005, Komatsu restructures as a national company with regional focus. 
 
Komatsu Australia Pty. Ltd.has now 52 branches with 2,300 employees. 70% of their employees are in technical roles and they have a coverage across Australia, New Zealand, and New Caledonia. They have three distribution centres in the country - which are Sydney, Brisbane, and Perth. Komatsu Australia is considered as a full range provider, offering new and used equipment, new and used parts, rental, and finance. 
 
Komatsu Diesel Mechanic maintains, tests and repairs diesel motors and the mechanical parts of trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles such as transmissions, suspension, steering, and brakes. Registration or licensing may be required.
 
In a recent survey done by the Department of Jobs and Small businesses in December 2017, employers reported a shortage of qualified and experienced motor (general) and diesel motor mechanics. Overall, there was the insufficient availability of suitable applicants to satisfy employer demand across the state. Some qualified applicants were considered unsuitable due to the insufficient amount or a limited range of experience, while other qualified applicants were considered unsuitable because they were unable to demonstrate the level of technical skills needed for the role. 
 

Essential

  1. Australian-recognised trade qualification as a Diesel Mechanic
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Diesel Mechanic within the last 5 years
  3. Advanced knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems used in the repair of heavy equipment
  4. Good English communication and interpersonal skills
  5. Current driver’s license​​

 

Desirable

  1. Training certificate/s from Komatsu
  2. Master Level Service Technician certification essential (but not a requirement)
  3. Excellent skills in operating vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes
